A new-build home with wood-clad gables and a paver drive between palms, on a bright day

Is a twilight shoot worth it for your listing?

When the dusk shot earns its place at the front of the listing, and when a bright afternoon exterior does the job better.

Most listings lead with a bright afternoon exterior, and most of the time that’s the right call. A twilight photo earns the front of the listing on fewer homes, but on the right one it’s the frame buyers stop on.

Here’s how we decide, and the two ways to get one: a real evening shoot, or a dusk sky made from the daytime photo.

When dusk earns the front of the listing

Homes with something to light up: a lanai, a pool, big windows, landscape lighting. At dusk the rooms glow warmer than the sky, and buyers see how the home feels in the evening, not only how it looks at noon.

When a bright afternoon does it better

If the selling point is the lawn, the water or the light inside, lead with daylight. A small front with few windows has little to light up at dusk, and a blue sky shows it at its best. Keep a twilight for later in the set, or skip it.

Real twilight: a second visit at dusk

We come back as the sun goes down, turn on every light, and shoot the front, the lanai and the pool while the sky changes. You get 10 photos for $150. It’s the one to pick when the pool and the outdoor rooms are the story.

On the right home, the dusk photo is the one that gets the click.

Virtual twilight: made from the daytime photo

Pick a daytime exterior and we turn it into a dusk shot in editing: a new sky, warm windows, the porch lights on. There’s no second visit, and it’s $20 an image. Want it to move? The virtual twilight with timelapse plays the day turning to dusk as a short clip, for $25.

Both are add-ons to any package, listed with the others on the pricing page.
